Panmusica Austria, Vienna

Mission statement by the Mayor of the City of Vienna

Throughout the decades, Panmusica Austria has reinforced the search and support for gifted young musicians blessed with oustanding talent. Activities range from recitals in the Vienna Konzerthaus and the Musikverein to the "Vienna Music Competition" in Japan, where the honorary prizes by the mayor and governor of Vienna were awarded in the Vienna City Hall. Additionally, Vienna now has its own annual piano competition held at the music university's Liszt Hall: the Vienna International Piano Competition, along with the Vienna International Masterclasses, provides a unique opportunity for musicians from all over the world to gather and share the spirit of music.

In the past years, those events have presented a whole new generation of artists deeply influenced by their encounters with music in Vienna. They are now musical ambassadors of the Austrian capital, and the enormous heritage and tradition of the city of Vienna, which has been home to the greatest composers and musicians in history, thus continues to live and spread around the globe.

Panmusica Austria has already existed for more than 30 years, and the activities of this organization contribute to a constant development of culture and arts in our country. I would therefore like to express my sincere wishes for success to the organizers of the 18th Vienna International Piano Competition and the 31st Vienna International Masterclasses as well as my hope for a joyful encounter with music to all contestants.

Welcome to Vienna!

Dr. Michael Häupl
(Mayor and Governor of Vienna from 1994 to 2018)
